One of the most awe-inspiring scenes in "The Dark Knight Rises" occurs when Bane (Tom Hardy) blows up the Gotham Rogues football field just after opening kickoff of a big game. The moment is a visual-effects dynamo, but if you think it was done solely via computer generation, you certainly don't know much about director Christopher Nolan.

Nolan, who prides himself on using practical special effects whenever possible, created a whole dummy field above the one at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, where the scene was shot. ("The Dark Knight Rises" even includes actual Pittsburgh Steelers players like Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward as members of the Rogues.) Explosions were set off to get the desired effect, while the depth of the damage was later adjusted in post-production.

Watch how Nolan and his team achieved the scene in the featurette above. The clip is part of the "Dark Knight Rises" DVD and Blu-ray, out in stores on Dec. 4.
