The actor, an alumnus of the school, visited the Kimmel Center, where students who had been evacuated from their dorms were staying on cots. "In my lifetime, this is like, unprecedented," Baldwin told students. NYU was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. In addition to the stranded students and cancelled classes, years of medical research at the school's flooded Langone Medical Center was lost after several laboratory rats drowned in the aftermath. However, NYU has also been the site of heroics. Anderson Cooper reported on university staffers who saved 20 babies during the medical center's hospital evacuation the night of the storm.
