While fans may never know whom Taylor Swift is singing about on her Red title track, whoever it is, she seems to be having a hard time shaking him off.
The bouncy country-pop tune is all about one guy she just can't seem to let go of. In fact, sometimes that passion can be quite dangerous to her emotions. "Loving him is like driving an old Maserati down a dead-end street," Swift says on the opening lines of the track. "Faster than the wind/ Passionate as sin/ Ended so suddenly."
Swift then uses colors to explain her feelings toward this mysterious fellow on the chorus: "Losing him was blue/ Like I've ever known/ Missing him was dark grey, all alone/ Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met," she sings, "But loving him was red."
"Red" is the third teaser for Swift's October 22 album release of the same name. Each song so far has painted a very interesting picture of the ways the singer is reminiscing about relationships.
Her chart-topping lead single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," was a sassy kiss-off. Her second single, "Begin Again" (which she is currently shooting a video for in Paris), is a slowed-down ode to the sweetness of just falling for someone. "Red" is all about the emotion you feel in between falling for someone and finally having the willingness to let them go, once and for all.
Based on what Swift told MTV News when we caught up with her last month, the "burning red" emotions she expresses on the new track are one of many shades of feelings on her upcoming album. "Well, in terms of my album, it kind of signifies the intense, really bold emotions you feel when you're in kind of mad love," Swift said. "And I think that all of the songs on the album are written about those kinds of experiences that I've had."
