CeCe Frey 'Knew' She Wasn't Going To Win 'X Factor'

'I wasn't that cookie-cutter girl you pick to win one of these things,' latest castoff tells MTV News. By Chris Kim

After the dust settles on the second season of "The X Factor" and the eventual winner is crowned (spoiler alert: it's most likely going to be Tate Stevens or Carly Rose Sonenclar), the most memorable and polarizing contestant must be the blond, leopard-print-loving CeCe Frey.

From her initial sassy audition of Xtina's "Ain't No Other Man" to her mock rivalry with Paige Thomas (over a Whitney Houston song, no less) and her over-the-top, glitzed-out performances, Frey managed to both entertain and frustrate us week to week.

It all came to an end during this week's elimination episode, which saw mentor Demi Lovato lose her entire team after Frey was finally voted out of the competition.

If the young songstress reminded you of Cher Lloyd on the U.K. version of "The X Factor" or Adam Lambert from "American Idol" — i.e., a polarizing, out-of-the-box pop-star wannabe — you're not alone.

"When Adam Lambert was on ['Idol'], I said, 'Now that's the kind of dude that needs to win one of these shows,' " Frey told MTV News on Friday (December 7). "But the thing is, performers like me and Adam Lambert and Diamond White and Lyric 145, we're not the kind of artists that win these things. We're the kind of artist that win afterwards — or I hope so, anyway — and I'm going to work my butt off to get there."

As defiant as ever, Frey was adamant she didn't come into this competition expecting to win.

"You hope for that, but I pretty much knew," she said of her chances. "I mean, I had leopard print on my face, for Christ's sake! I pretty much knew that I wasn't that cookie-cutter girl that you pick to win one of these things, but I knew that I was going to use this and run with it."

Without a doubt, Frey was a fierce performer throughout the competition, managing to climb the leaderboard, defy Simon's comment to "pack a suitcase" last week and amass a legion of fans. But was leaving in sixth place enough for the rising songstress?

"You bet your ass I'm happy with sixth place!"

What did you think of CeCe's elimination? Let us know in the comments!

'Hopefully we bump into them after the show,' The Wanted's Max George tells MTV News at New York's Jingle Ball concert. By Christina Garibaldi

NEW YORK — It all came down to Friday night (December 7) at Z100's annual Jingle Ball concert: Would One Direction and The Wanted finally settle their nearly monthlong feud?

Well, if it's up to The Wanted, they will. After trading jabs through interviews and on Twitter, fans of One Direction and The Wanted — who, at one time, were on friendly terms — were worried there would be a boy-band show down at Madison Square Garden, where they were both performing Friday.

On Monday, The Wanted said they could "get arrested" if the argument with 1D escalated, and they've been hyping the face-to-face meet-up for quite some time, recently telling MTV News, "If you got an actual problem, come see us in New York."

On the Jingle Ball red carpet, we caught up with The Wanted's Jay McGuiness and Max George — who was appropriately wearing a T-shirt that read "You Mad, Bro?" — and they revealed that in the spirit of the holidays, it was time to put the feud behind them ... even if they're still unsure why it went as far as it did.

"It seemed to start as a joke," McGuiness said of the back-and-forth. "But then the tone got a little bit nasty, so I just like to see how they feel about it, because I didn't like what I read. I think it's probably best that we peace a little at Christmas."

Lindsay Lohan is still hanging with The Wanted after her arrest.

This isn't the first time The Wanted have attempted to make amends with One Direction: George admitted that he reached out to them earlier about a possible truce.

"I invited them for a beer a few months ago," George revealed. "But they didn't take me up on it. Hopefully we bump into them after the show."

McGuiness added: "Peace and love at Christmas!"

It seems Directioners and the TWFanmily can rest easy, because this battle of the boy bands has come to an end — for now.

Nikki Haley Dashes Stephen Colbert's Senate Dreams
Dec 7th 2012, 22:28

Senator Stephen Colbert (R-SC) will not become a reality, thanks to South Carolina's buzzkill of a governor Nikki Haley, who denied Colbert's dream in a Facebook post Friday afternoon.

As soon as Jim DeMint announced he will vacating his Senate seat before the end of the year, speculation began that Colbert, a South Carolina native, would campaign to have Haley appoint him to fill the seat. Known for his stunt political campaigns (which, in the 2012 election, involved very real Super PAC money), Colbert was immediately and widely expected to flamboyantly court Haley's appointment.

On Thursday's "Colbert Report," he acknowledged the support and told his fans to tweet at Haley using the hashtag #SenatorColbert.

Alas, it was not meant to be. On Friday afternoon, Haley posted the following to her Facebook page:

Stephen, thank you for your interest in South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and for the thousands of tweets you and your fans sent me.

But you forget one thing, my friend.

You didn't know our state drink. Big, big mistake.

Haley is referring to her own "Colbert Report" interview from last April, when Colbert failed to correctly remember that milk is the official drink of South Carolina. (In fairness, Haley didn't know the state amphibian is the salamander.)

We can't imagine that Colbert will let this go easily, but it appears for now Haley is deadset against Stephen Colbert entering the U.S. Senate. All because of milk.

'A Lot Worse Sh-t Actually Happened': Tarantino Talks 'Django' & Slavery
Dec 7th 2012, 22:50

The "d" in "Django Unchained" might be silent, but Quentin Tarantino's newest film is anything but. The two-hour-and-45-minute homage to Spaghetti Western's brutally depicts conditions for slaves in pre-Civil War America. The incredibly violent film is R-rated for good reason: "Django Unchained" includes whippings, brandings, beatings, dog attacks and even threatened castration, all directed at slaves.

"We all intellectually 'know' the brutality and inhumanity of slavery," Tarantino reportedly said at a screening of "Django Unchained" in the U.K. on Thursday. "But after you do the research it's no longer intellectual any more, no longer just historical record –- you feel it in your bones. It makes you angry, and want to do something ... I'm here to tell you, that however bad things get in the movie, a lot worse sh-t actually happened."

Tarantino's film stars Jamie Foxx as the title character, a freed slave who goes searching for his wife with the help of a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz). Leonardo DiCaprio, in a character turn unlike any other he's done before, plays the villainous Calvin Candie, a plantation owner who treats his slaves with cold-hearted brutality.

"This movie is really going land heavy. It's the first Western that acknowledges slavery," Foxx told Jimmy Kimmel back in September. "In dealing with the slavery aspect of it, for black Americans -- for our education on what it is -- it's really going to land sincere."

Kerry Washington stars as Foxx's onscreen wife in the film. At one point, she's forced to take lashings from a whip, a scene that was incredibly tough for her to film.

"We've never dealt with the brutality of this part of American history in this way. And it's one thing to not even want to talk about it, but to actually have to see it -- to go there -- has been hard," she told HuffPost Entertainment.

Dec 7th 2012, 22:12

"What Not To Wear" is giving Tiffany -- of "I Think We're Alone Now" fame -- a makeover, and HuffPost TV has the exclusive first look at the episode.

In the Season 10 premiere of TLC's "What Not To Wear" (Thurs., Jan. 3 at 10 p.m. EST), Stacy London and Clinton Kelly will guide the '80s pop star -- who once made jean jackets a fashion staple -- through a much-needed change.

As she tells Stacy and Clinton in the exclusive clip above, Tiffany nominated herself for "What Not To Wear" and will spend her own money on the new clothes. "My friends and my family have brought it to my attention that I dress in things that are a little too big for me, but we'll talk about my issues later," Tiffany says with a laugh.

Throughout Season 10, Stacy and Clinton will makeover more celebrities like Nicole Eggert, Tina Yothers and Shannon Elizabeth. "What Not To Wear" Season 10 premieres on Thursday, January 3at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.

Charles Karel Bouley: IMS Brings Two Wheels to Life in Long Beach
Dec 8th 2012, 00:52

The International Motorcycling Show is making its annual stop in Long Beach this weekend, December 7 to 9, and more than 500 bikes and 20 manufacturers will be showing the latest, greatest or most unique things on two, or three, wheels. The show attracts a large cross-section of people, from those that just like to look, to serious riders, or those that use bikes every day or just weekends at the track. Celebrities from all media attend, and it is completely family-friendly.

America has a love/hate relationship with motorcycles and motorcycling. Those that love it, love it; then there are those that call them "donor cycles" or think they are just death waiting to happen. It's those attitudes that are hard to overcome; they're institutionalized in some circles.

What about that attitude? Actors Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra) and Gunner Wright (Losers, GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra, J Edgar) were both on hand for the media tour of the show.

"It is true that motorcycling can be a dangerous endeavor," Vosloo began, "but it is the most wonderful thing you can do. It's hard to describe. The best analogy about motorcycling I've heard is that if you are driving a car, it's like watching a movie, if you're riding a motorcycle, it's like starring in a movie. There's a certain feeling you get that is indescribable."

"That's so true," Wright added. "You feel much more like you are participating in the experience on a bike."

Vosloo is quite happy with his Suzuki Bandit while Wright rides a KTM 690 Enduro.

"As long as it's got two wheels and a full tank of gas, you can't go wrong," the duo added.

The slow economy and rising oil prices are reflected at the show in value pricing, newer, less expensive models and models that exceed 70mpg.

"These are very much bike for the times, they are very affordable to buy and operate and they get phenomenal fuel economy," said Ty van Hooydonk from the Motorcycle Industry Council, which hosted the media at a breakfast at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle in Long Beach, Calif., and then showed off the new bikes to the press. "The Honda NC700x gets up to 70 mpg, some people reporting over 80. And this is the year of the happy medium, bikes that are between 300-500cc, great starter bikes."

As for the continually piquing interest in the United States about motorcycles, van Hooydonk continued, "Folks in America are getting in tune with what is happening around the rest of the world. It's a smaller world thanks to social media and TV and folks in this country are getting more adventurous about a lot of things, motorcycles included."

While riding a motorcycle can be a life-changing experience, so can selling motorcycle insurance. Progressive is a major sponsor, and while the commercials with Flo have been one of the most successful ad campaigns of any company, there's a new character in town, The Messenger, played by John Jenkinson. Jenkinson was on hand as rider himself, and also, to man the Progressive "Rest Stop" booth.

"I did a commercial with Flo called 'Riding with Flo' and I met Brian, one of the writers of the spots on the set, and he and his partner Jim are great and they ended up writing me in to the ads," he recalled when asked how he got in to these iconic TV spots. Many may think that that kind of visibility brings great wealth, and while it can, for the most part, it's Hollywood as usual.

"You'd be surprise what actors get paid, so I'm not rolling in the dough yet," he laughed. "But this has been a life-changing, huge blessing for me. I, for the first time, don't have to worry about paying rent, when's the next gig coming around. It's nice to now have time to do things now, like a short sci-fi film this weekend and I am getting more opportunities."

When asked if he's worried about the popularity of the commercials actually working against him for other jobs, he has a strategy. This handsomely bearded gentleman will simply change his look. "Facial hair is a tactic I can use to change my look so I'm not so identified. And, my character, The Messenger, he's a mysterious character, a John the Baptist-type messenger, moving from town to town with a positive message. I like that idea, bringing good news from town to town."

As as for getting around, these days, he's riding in style. "I ride a K-1300 GT BMW, and I have to thank Progressive for helping me afford that!" he laughed.

The show has something for every rider, whether entry level or experienced pro. Dee Dee Taft is with the IMS and has seen the show grow and grow each year in the various cities.

"It's a great show this year with more North American debuts than we've ever had," Taft explained. "KTM, Ducati, Royal Enfield are all debuting or featuring bikes for the first time. And all types of bikes, there's such diversity. Everybody is taking note of the American economy, bikes are value priced, and they are squeezing more and more mileage out of all of them. There's a better energy at the shows," she continued. "More bikes, more than 500 on display and it's reflected by record attendance each year. A for us, we are here for three days, then we are off to Seattle and will make it across the country to the East Coast to New York and then the South."

Standouts at the show include the Ducati Hypermotard, a beautifully engineered new line of power, style and comfort bikes. Zero Motorcycles, which has introduced a line of electric motorcycles capable of going more than 140 miles per charge, generated quite an amount of buzz, with newer models that now look like any of the very stylish street bikes, but without the use of fossil fuel to power them. There's custom motorcycles, gear and every accessory known to mankind for a motorcycle available at the show.

The show runs through Sunday with tickets being $15 for adults and $6 for kids. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Karel does not own a car, instead opting for the Aprlia Mana 850 and Piaggio MP3 250 for about town. To listen to Karel daily download the app . To watch Karel daily on Ustream go the The Karel Show and be sure to follow him on Twitter @thekarelshow
