Academy Award-winning Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul (born Paul Beauregard) was arrested in New York Sunday night after informing police that he had a taser in his pocket.
According to TMZ, Paul left a Manhattan restaurant with a beer in his hand when he walked by a pair of officers who stopped him to talk about the open container. When they confronted him about the brew, Paul reportedly informed the cops that he was packing a taser, which is illegal for civilians to carry in New York.
The officers confiscated the weapon and placed Paul under arrest for misdemeanor possession of a weapon and an open container violation. The rapper was booked and locked up and he was scheduled to come in front of a judge for a bond hearing on Monday morning.
A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's office said that Paul had not yet been arraigned at press time.
Paul is gearing up to release a new album, A Person of Interest on October 22, featuring guest spots from Gucci Mane on "W.I.L.L." as well as DJ Kay Slay on "I Can't Take It," Lil Wyte on "I'm Sprung," Aaron Williams on "Had Ta Eat" and Locodunit on "Witha S---" and "E&J" and the hit "No Panties."
The album's cover features an image of Paul in a phony booking photo.
