The Black Keys and RZA get down to some serious food-fu in the brand new "The Baddest Man Alive" video, which sees them engaging in all manners of hand-to-hand (and comestible-to-comestible) combat to determine just who is the baddest of the bunch.
Yes, lettuce is shredded, fish are flung and lo-mein is lobbed with impunity in the tongue-in-cheek clip, as the Keys and the Wu-mastermind battle it out in a Chinese restaurant ... all over a fortune cookie (they are pretty tasty, after all). Directed by Chris Marrs Piliero — who directed the Black Keys' similarly pulpy "Howlin' For You" — the "Baddest" clip is most definitely a loving ode to the Z-Grade chop-sockey films of old, all over-the-top machismo, wide-eyed staredowns and exaggerated flexing (in a way, it also recalls another Keys'/Piliero team-up, the VMA-winning "Tighten Up" video ... at least in the amount of punishment Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney take).
There's seemingly no schlocky, kung-fu flick staple that doesn't go unexplored in the "Baddest" clip — at one point, a dude's arm is accidentally ripped off for no apparent reason — which seems very much in line with the RZA's directorial debut, "The Man With The Iron Fists," a gore-filled tribute to the martial-arts films he watched as a kid.
And just who emerges as the baddest man alive at the clip's end? Well, you'll just have to watch to find out ... though, we love the fact that the entire thing culminates with one very excellent (and thoroughly satisfying) "Damn straight!" Quite simply, in every single way, this video totally rules.
"The Man with the Iron Fists" hits theaters on November 2. The film's soundtrack — which features songs from Kanye West, the Keys, My Chemical Romance and Wiz Khalifa — is in stores on Monday (October 22).
