Just when we thought this year couldn't get any bigger for pop star Carly Rae Jepsen, it just did. The Canadian singer has been named Billboard's Rising Star of 2012.

"As a singer-songwriter having grown up listening to and being influenced by countless female artists, I am truly honored to be recognized by Billboard with this award," Jepsen says in a statement to the magazine on Thursday. "I hope to inspire others through my music the way those artists have inspired me.

Jepsen kicked of 2012 as a relative unknown, but quickly made her mark on pop culture in February with some help from fellow Canadian, Justin Bieber. After hearing her smash hit "Call Me Maybe," Bieber tweeted out his excitement about the song, and then recruited some of his famous friends to make a viral video cover, sparking many copy-cat videos.

Shortly after, Bieber signed Jepsen to his Schoolboy records and "Call Me Maybe" took off, becoming the song of the summer and spending nine weeks on top of Billboard's Hot 100.

Yet Jepsen proved that she was much more than a one-hit wonder with her platinum follow-up single, "Good Time" with Owl City. In September, Jepsen released her highly anticipated U.S. debut album, Kiss, which debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at #6, and is currently on the road with Bieber for his Believe tour.

"I've written on almost every song, and these are lyric ideas that I've been collecting since I was, like, 17, so it's really fun to get to see them put to life," Jepsen told MTV News in August. "It's cool to be able to say with confidence that this is an album that I feel like I've been waiting to make and I'm ready to finally have out there."

Jepsen, who will join Billboard Woman of the Year, Katy Perry, at a celebratory event on November 30, joins an elite list of artists who have been deemed Rising Star, including Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga.
