It's been a rough couple of weeks for Maybach Music Group MC Gunplay. On September 29, the Miami rapper got into a brawl with 50 Cent's G-Unit crew at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards, and now, Gunplay (real name: Richard Welton Morales) turned himself in after a May warrant stemming from a robbery.
The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed to MTV News on Thursday (October 10) that the "Rollin' " rapper finally turned himself in, and he now faces armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault charges and is being held with no bond. Gunplay also got hit with a separate charge for having a non-valid driver's license.
Though it was reported that the Rick Ross affiliate would surrender to authorities Tuesday, he took an extra day before putting an end to the inevitable. "Gunplay voluntarily surrendered today without incident. There's been an open arrest warrant for armed robbery with a firearm," the rapper's attorney Mike Grieco told TMZ.
Last month, Gunplay was involved in a brawl with a number of G-Unit affiliates backstage at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards taping in Atlanta. "I stood up in the paint, like a real G supposed to, with five bodyguards that's trained to kill a human," Gunplay said in a radio interview following the aftermath.
He compared some of the men to "refrigerators," explaining that during the fight, he lost his footing, got back up and "caught one of the refrigeration like a lion on a wildebeest," before the pepper spray came.
