'His ultimate weapon is rage,' Jackman reveals of Logan's upcoming return to the big-screen. By Josh Wigler

He's the best there is at what he does, and what he does ain't very nice — though he does make for one hell of a poster boy!

Hugh Jackman claws his way back to the big-screen next July with "The Wolverine," reprising his role as the fast-healing mutant for the first time since 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and the sixth time overall. The Australian actor and his director James Mangold hosted a fan Q&A session earlier this week, revealing a brand new poster for the film and plenty of other details about their interpretation of the character. Perhaps the most interesting revelation of them all: "The Wolverine" is a sequel to "X-Men 3," not "X-Men Origins."

"It finds Logan at a point when the X-Men are gone; Jean Grey is gone; a lot of the ties he had to the world, are gone," said Mangold. "I wanted to place this story somewhere where Hugh and I could develop a movie which could create its own world, wouldn't have to in a sense hand off to another movie or answer to another movie."

"Enough with the 'I can't remember what happened to me, what was my past, who am I?'" Jackman added. "We've explored it a lot."

Instead, "The Wolverine" will explore Logan's literally eternal struggles of immortality and outliving the people he loves. Those blessings often serve as curses for the lonely Logan, who heads to Japan with more rage in his heart than ever before. It's that sense of wrath that Mangold and Jackman are so interested in.

"His ultimate weapon is his rage," said Jackman. "There are others that have stronger superpowers on paper, but who's the person you least want to annoy? Wolverine. And that's the thing that makes him badass. That's the thing that makes him cool. And that's the thing we're trying to key in on. Not this inflation of powers, not the healing ability, but really when it comes to it, it's that berserker rage."

But that's not to say Wolverine isn't without his weaknesses, as Jackman teased, "You're always in danger with someone like Wolverine because he has his healing ability. Unless you lop his head off, he's going to come back at you. Actually, in this movie, he discovers his kryptonite."

"Some of the people Logan is up against might have found ways of getting to him that are different than we've seen before," Mangold added. "We don't want to give away more about it now, but I think that we're very conscious of that."
