The votes are in, and the artist that will land the first-ever cover of Rolling Stone's "Women Who Rock" issue is Karmin. Fans, a.ka. the "Karminites," voted for the pop duo to win the honor, which has singer Amy Heidemann gracing the flip cover, partnering her up with bandmate and fiancé Nick Noonan inside the magazine, along with several other female musicians.
"Karminites... WE DID IT!!!" Karmin tweeted following the news. "We're going to be on the cover of @RollingStone!!!!!!"
Karmin, who beat out Roc Nation's newest member, Rita Ora, for the cover spot, were first discovered through YouTube after posting several successful cover videos.
"We are so... there's not even a word to describe it, we are so thankful and humbled and grateful and spoiled just to have your support. I can't believe it," Heidemann told Rolling Stone of winning the cover spot, which hits newsstands September 28. "We owe everybody hugs, we love you guys."
Last month, MTV News caught up with Karmin at the "Women Who Rock" showcase in Chicago, where they expressed just how much landing this cover would mean to them.
"If we landed this cover, it would be a really, really big deal. I'm from a small town in Nebraska, and I know the entire state is pulling for us," Heidemann said. "They're just really excited for us. All of our friends, all of our fans, Karminites, the crazy Karminites out there who have been voting like nuts, I mean, it would be a huge deal. We'd probably have a Ustream party with the entire planet."
Noonan added, "It's amazing, it's like going to the Olympics. It's a big deal, very cool, we are very honored."
Things won't be slowing down for the duo anytime soon. Their second single, "Hello," is currently #2 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart, and they will be performing on Dancing with the Stars on October 9. They will end their successful year with a performance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as Dick Clark's "New Year's Rockin' Eve."
