Why Didn't Frank Ocean Make The 'Django Unchained' Soundtrack?
Dec 3rd 2012, 16:05

Why didn't the song Frank Ocean wrote for the "Django Unchained" soundtrack wind up on the "Django Unchained" soundtrack? Allow director Quentin Tarantino to explain.

"Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn't a scene for it," Tarantino said in a statement (via Pitchfork). "I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that's not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn't want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they'll realize it then."

GQ initially reported Ocean's "Django" involvement.

While Ocean didn't make the soundtrack cut, "Django Unchained" does feature new music from Rick Ross and John Legend.

"I want to thank all the artists who contributed original songs (a first for me) to the picture. Most of these contributions came out of the artists' own inspiration and their illustration of the film's soul is invaluable," Tarantino said in a press release accompanying the album's announcement.
