The lengthy wait for new Bruno Mars music has been well worth the wait, as indicated by the brief tease we received from the crooner during his Google + Hangout on Monday (October 1).

Mars debuted his new single, "Locked Out of Heaven," flanked by his songwriting/production team Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine amid a group of (mostly female) fans who tuned in to listen around the globe. The track is the lead single from his sophomore studio effort, Unorthodox Jukebox, due December 11.

"Heaven" is a feel-good, upbeat track that will have you bopping your head and tapping your toes. It has an old school/Motown vibe paired with the current dance-y beats dominating pop radio right now. The chorus fits into Mars' previous body of work that relies heavily on love songs and lyrics that describe the range of emotions involved with falling in love and being in romantic relationships:

"You make me feel like I've been locked out of heaven for too long/ Can I just stay here, spend the rest of my days here?" he sings.

When asked by a fan to name his favorite lyrics in the track, Mars picked the poetic phrase "But swimming in your water is something spiritual," and later teased that the single's exploration of feeling and being in love fits into the theme of the album, which he summarized as "sensual, sensual and sensual."

In other exciting Mars-related news, the enthusiastic singer/songwriter has been tapped to host and perform on "Saturday Night Live" October 20, where he will perform "Heaven" for the first time live.

"It's incredibly flattering," Mars said when asked by a fan how he is preparing for the show. "You have to have fun. For the first time ever live, I'm going to sing that song, so no pressure."

Mars' fans are eager for new music, since it's been two years since the he released his Grammy-nominated, certified-platinum album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which produced several radio-friendly hit singles like "Just the Way You Are," "Grenade" and "The Lazy Song."
