It's been a rollercoaster year for Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino. Following a rocky fifth season of "Jersey Shore," he found himself at odds with the majority of the housemates, especially his once close friend, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.
During tonight's premiere of the sixth and final season, fans will witness the Situation return to the Shore house a different person. Last season seemed to be a wake-up call for the "Jersey Shore" star, as he decided to take action against problems that have been plaguing him for quite some time. In March, he entered a treatment facility to deal with a prescription-medication addiction.
When he sat down with MTV News' Sway Calloway two months later, he opened up about the recovery process and his struggle to stay sober.
"Ever since I've been out, I'm not gonna lie ... it's not easy," Sorrentino said. "But at the same time, where I'm at right now, I'm at a good place. But it took a little bit to get there. In the beginning? A lot of rainy days, so to speak. A lot of rainy days."
The final season will see Mike saying goodbye to his hard partying days and focusing his energy on making amends with his housemates.
"This particular season, season six, it definitely comes full circle," he recently told MTV News. "And being the sixth one, you'll see how my relationship with the whole house, MVP, Ronnie, Sammie and obviously Snooki, and you'll see how they change throughout the season."
The Situation wastes no time in trying to repair the friendships he's made over the years, even if he was unsure how they would respond.
"I wasn't a little nervous, but I definitely was a little anxious," he said of reuniting with his housemates. "I mean, I didn't know how everybody was going to react to me, but I was hoping for the best though."
Now eight months sober, Mike knew going into the shore house for the final season would be a difficult task, but was adamant on keeping his vow of staying sober.
"I really took it day by day and tried to be the best me that I could be on a daily basis," he said. "And I tried not to look too much ahead of time because then you'll trip on your feet. "
