Gunning down racketeers and romancing dames is all in a day's work for Ryan Gosling in the new trailer for "Gangster Squad," which hit the web today — bullets blazing — via Apple.

The new clip is the first to be released following a re-shoot to remove a violent theater scene in the wake of the tragedy at an Aurora, Colo., screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in July. And while the first trailer leaned heavily on Sean Penn's mob boss Mickey Cohen, the latest puts the Tommy Gun firmly in the hands of Gosling's gumshoe Jerry Wooters.

Set in 1940s Los Angeles, the film is inspired by the true story of Brooklyn kingpin Cohen, who relocates to the West Coast to become a "god" among men. He's met with little opposition until Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) assembles a clandestine squad of crime-fighters (including Wooters) to take him down.

All trench-coated bravado — and under the guise of being a Bible salesman — Wooters catches the eye of Cohen's girlfriend, Grace Faraday (played by Gosling's "Crazy, Stupid, Love" co-star Emma Stone), and like any red-blooded woman faced with Gosling in a cocked fedora, she falls for him — and into his bed.

But as the squad (which also includes Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pena and Robert Patrick), wages war on Cohen and his kind, it's clear this love triangle will not have a happy ending. As the trailer draws to a close, Cohen spits one last ominous threat: "You're going to be begging for a bullet before its over."

"Gangster Squad" hits theaters January 11, 2013.
