'Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern,' band says in an announcement as frontman remains in rehab. By James Montgomery

Two days after Metallica filled in for them as headliners at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans, Green Day announced Monday (October 29) that they were canceling all dates for 2012, as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong continues his stint in rehab.

"Obviously, the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern," bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement. "We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank all of you for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again."

Green Day's tour was originally set to begin in Seattle in late September, but that date was scrapped when Armstrong entered treatment for "substance abuse." At first, the band said they'd only miss a few promotional appearances for their trio of new albums, but soon after, they pulled out of their slot at Voodoo. And now, all remaining dates — running until a December 10 show in Tempe, Arizona — have been canceled.

Additionally, all 2013 dates have been postponed, though a spokesperson for the band added that those shows will be rescheduled, with an announcement coming "shortly." Previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new dates.

Green Day also said they'd be moving up the release date of their ¡Tre! album to December 11 (it had originally been scheduled to hit stores on January 15, 2013).

"We feel bad that we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," drummer Tre Cool in the press release. "If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."

The second installment of Green Day's trilogy, ¡Dos! is still set to be released on November 9.
