Ed Sheeran, it seems, is a man of his word. The next single One Direction releases will indeed be a track that the singer/songwriter penned, a tidbit he teased last month.

Back in September, the red-headed folk singer opened up to MTV News about some tracks he wrote and later gave to his pals in One Direction. During that same chat, he dropped the news that one of those songs, which MTV News has confirmed is titled "Little Things," just might be the follow-up single to "Live While We're Young."

While the song hasn't been confirmed for U.S. release yet, it is expected to debut in the U.K. sometime soon and a video has been shot for it. Given how viral anything One Direction quickly becomes, we imagine Stateside fans will also get to check it out once it drops. "Little Things" is the next release off the band's November 13 album, Take Me Home.

Fans have yet to hear the track, but Sheeran did give us some clues as to what fans might expect from the tune. "The song that I think will be the single, one of the singles, is kind of a very sweet song," he said. "It was written about the best things about someone, kind of like the things you wouldn't expect. You'll have to hear it. I can't really say too much 'cause it's their album. I want them to be the first ones to announce it and stuff."

"Little Things" is one of two songs that Sheeran gifted the guys with after he worked with them on their debut album, Up All Night. While he has described "Little Things" as an "appreciation song," the other track he described as a "kind of a getting-back-together song."

With only weeks left until the group's sophomore album drops, fans might be wondering where Sheeran found his muse for these tracks. Turns out his ex-girlfriend provided lots of inspiration.

"Seventeen-year-old Ed just wrote a lot of love songs, so expect to hear a lot of love songs on their album, I guess," Sheeran explained. "I had a wicked girlfriend at 17. ... She was great. Actually [my] + album is pretty much about her," he went on to reveal. "So she spawned off a lot of songs."
