Bette Midler could be heading to "Glee."
At the God's Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards, "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy invited The Divine Miss M to appear on the Fox series. And Midler accepted ... sort of.
Midler took to Twitter with casting ideas (and used the wrong usernames, but it's all good, she's Bette Midler).
This isn't the first time Murphy has invited celebrities to guest star on "Glee" while at awards shows. At the 2011 Golden Globes Murphy invited "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Les Miserables" star Anne Hathaway to guest star on "Glee" after the actress made talk show rounds expressing interest in guest starring.
"She walked by our table and we have a mutual friend and I said, 'Do you really want to do it?' And she said, 'I do.' And I said, 'OK, we're gonna do it,'" Murphy told Access Hollywood in January 2011.
"I think we'll do it probably in a month and a half or so ... I have to talk to Anne about what she wants to sing. I'm sure she has ideas," he said. "I'm excited about that."
That role never happened. In August 2011, Hathaway told PopSugar she still wanted to guest star as Kurt's (Chris Colfer) lesbian aunt.
"Ryan Murphy goes, 'Anne Hathaway! Come on 'Glee.' And I said, 'Yes!' and he said 'Fab, I'll call you,'" Hathaway said, recounting the Golden Globes offer. "He went back to the press room and said, 'Anne Hathaway is going to be on the show,' and that became like a news event," she said.
But Hathaway said she never heard from Murphy.
"And I never heard from him again [laughs]. Ryan Murphy, I'm calling you out: I want to be on 'Glee.' I've got my songs picked out," Hathaway said.
A month later Murphy said he was going to meet with Hathaway to discuss the role ... but still, there's been no official news of her casting.
Only time will tell if Midler's guest appearance will ever come to be.
