'Scandal': Who Did Olivia Call To Win Quinn's Trial?
Oct 4th 2012, 19:29

"Scandal" (Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC) got off to a pretty action-packed start for Season 2, and the next couple of episodes are full-speed ahead for Olivia Pope & Associates.

This week, the theme is forgiveness, but don't let the powerful messages fool you: The juiciest tidbits are in the answers, and fans will be happy to know that we find out who exactly Olivia (Kerry Washington) called to get Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) off trial for murder.

I got a special sneak peek of this week's second episode of Season 2, "The Other Woman," and while I don't want to spoil anything specific, here are a few good teases of what to expect, and some scoop from the cast below:

  • We get to see more of Cyrus (Jeff Perry) at home, and in his pajamas
  • There's a crisis of faith and someone is referred to as "300 pounds of pastor"
  • We learn how the team at Olivia Pope & Associates stays so fresh after all-nighters -- they share an office deodorant!
  • Quinn Perkins/Lindsay Dwyer has a secret meeting
  • Someone wants a baby
  • The fabulous Leslie Grossman is back as the medical examiner
  • David (Josh Malina) is still upset about losing the Quinn Perkins trial ... really upset
  • The President fires someone very high up
  • Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia share a laugh and have a rare lighthearted moment amid a tragedy
  • Mellie (Bellamy Young), the First Lady, becomes very sympathetic again
  • You'll see the crying scene on the couch with guest star Lorraine Toussaint that Bellamy Young teased to us a few months back
  • It might make you google "millet"
  • Something with Huck (Guillermo Diaz) might make you want a shot of whiskey
  • Someone starts a major photo collage project, in true TV detective fashion
  • And last, but certainly not least, we find out who Olivia called to get Quinn's trial fixed!

HuffPost TV got to chat with the cast for a bit to try to get more out of them about "The Other Woman." Keep reading for a few more teases of Episode 2 and beyond from Kerry Washington (Olivia Pope), Katie Lowes (Quinn Perkins/Lindsay Dwyer), Columbus Short (Harrison Wright), Darby Stanchfield (Abby Whelan), Guillermo Diaz (Huck), Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene), Bellamy Young (First Lady Mellie Grant) and Josh Malina (David Rosen).

The Continuing Adventures of Quinn Perkins Lowes: "The 'Who is Quinn?' and the Quinn Perkins trial is connected to such a huge conspiracy that's so much bigger than who she is, and how large does it go? She has to be back at Olivia Pope & Associates -- Olivia's got to keep her under lock and key and keep her safe and in front of her eyes. I think that Quinn knows some things. I don't think she knows yet how huge it really goes, but she's getting inklings, and I think that this season is so much about Quinn really getting to the bottom of what the hell happened to her life and how did this happen? She's really sniffing around."

Diaz: "Yeah, she has no idea that I'm involved ... yet."

Lowes: "That's what's fun -- this season, you see her blowing up at Abby at the end of Episode 3 and you heard that really vicious voicemail she left the ex-boyfriend before he was blown up. You're just starting to see what Quinn really has going on. The nice, innocent thing is sometimes chosen to be a tool."

Olivia Pope's New Nemesis Malina: "David is entirely obsessed with the woman, who appears to be Olivia, who's brought him down. He knows that he had a slam dunk, giant, career-making case, and she swiped it from him. This woman just completely has his number. And he loses his job -- temporarily or permanently -- and that's clearly traceable to her, too. So I think he's singularly focused on figuring out how she's done it."

And Opposition In The Office, Too Stanchfield: "She sure is questioning [Olivia] a lot. I was getting scripts, and I was like, 'Am I gonna get fired? What's going on? Is Abby going to defect and go work somewhere else?' All fair game!"

Short: "Last season, the White House had these rich characters -- who to trust, where are they morally -- and that's really happening at OPA now. With every single character. Things are happening on a big level, relationships are being questioned, loyalties are being questioned, betrayals are happening, alliances are forming."

Stanchfield: "Harrison and Abby have some really, really fun stuff -- complicated and fun. We get teamed up a lot. You get a floodgate of [information on] him in [Episodes] 206 and 207. They are rolling out stuff for his character that's so unpredictable and so yummy. And again, complicated."

Washington: "There's a wondering way that our case of the week tends to trigger issues that we have at Pope & Associates. No one is who they seem to be, and everybody who works at Pope & Associates has their own past with scandal. It's part of why we're so good at our job, because when somebody walks through our door, we have a high level of compassion because we've all been there. This week, 'The Other Woman,' it brings up lots of stuff for Olivia who identifies with those characters in a way. It's about forgiveness and acceptance and women who love powerful men."

The First Couple Young: "We get to see a different side of Fitz and Mellie. I always say that you're just meeting Mellie in the moment that she's in, which is not the prettiest color on her. So it's nice that we're getting to show a little before and a little after in terms of how deeply Fitz and I are connected."

Darkness Resurfaces Diaz: "Yeah it's scary how deep I go into that place as an actor -- I really try to go there. I have so much to play there. I'm so lucky."

And Some Lightness Perry: "You know this theme that's run through 'Scandal' since the beginning of, 'I wonder if I could have some normal?' For people in rarified work positions, where work is consuming and a half ... I was just reminded of a little factoid about real Chiefs of Staff. Their longevity is less than a year and a half in any given administration. They're the first ones there and the last ones to leave. So there are giant obstacles ... but [Cyrus] has hope, like, 'Don't I ever get a little bit of what other humans get? A marriage? A kid?'"

When Will America's Baby Be Born? Young: "We came back plus-or-minus sixth months after we left off [in Season 1] ... Tony and I have talked at length because there have been some discrepancies. Shonda says plus-or-minus six months; Lyn [Paolo], our costume designer says plus-or-minus seven months. So I don't know when the baby is coming."

David's Sassy Sidekick Malina: "Brenda Song -- who, by the way, is an enormous star! She is the real deal. She was a giant Disney star. I love the character ... I know that she's in at least one more episode, and I suspect more than that."

Welcome Back Lowes: "The first question I asked after we found out who Quinn Perkins was was, 'What? What about her family?' Me, personally, I talk to my mom like five times a day. If I just disappeared off the planet and had been arrested for blowing up a building and killing seven people ... you'd have some questions. So bang, Episode 2 she goes home to California and meets her dad after having not seen him for two years, and she does not get a warm welcome. He sort of comes to the conclusion that you've ruined our lives and you're not welcome here anymore, and so the only option she has is to go back to Olivia and her misfit family of associates."

"Scandal" airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
